William L. Gormley to receive South Jersey Statesman Award Published Feb. 20, 2007 TURNERSVILLE, NJ – The Southern New Jersey Development Council will present New Jersey State Senator William L. Gormley with the “South Jersey Statesman” Award on Friday, February 23, 2007 at its 25th Annual Sound Off for South Jersey. Gormley retired on February 15, 2007 from the New Jersey Senate after 32 years of public service. The Southern New Jersey Development Council honors Gormley’s commitment to South Jersey and the second legislative district. Throughout his tenure as a New Jersey Senator, Gormley wrote legislation that created the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, which provides money to revitalize urban areas in New Jersey. He was also instrumental in conducting a review of racial profiling in New Jersey. Sound Off for South Jersey, presented by Sun National Bank, will begin at 8:00 a.m. with welcoming remarks from Caren Franzini, CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo (invited). Immediately following will be panels on property tax reform and the two most important issues facing South Jersey.
